Working in a bridal boutique, we see a lot of beautiful photography. A lot of these shots are the standard ones, with the bridal party, with the parents, the dress shot, the ring shot, etc etc, so we always love it when we see unique photos that make us do a double take. Take, for instance, the romantic-couple-kissing shot. Sometimes these are sweet, sometimes they're, er, awkward and sometimes they're hot! We thought it'd be fun to compile a few romantic photos but what's important to remember is to do what feels comfortable for you, as a couple. If you are more of a quirky, whimsical couple then go with that! If you're goofy and spontaneous, let that reflect in your photos. If you're up for some more steamy shots maybe these will inspire you!

Lace continues to be the big story for bridal wear in 2012 and just when we think we can't get any more beautiful gowns in, we open up a box and swoon over a new arrival. Case in point: Martina Liana dress 404, a stunning ivory silk lace gown with a gorgeous removable capelet, also a trend heading into Fall 2012. Add a pretty sash and you're good to go for dancing 'till dawn. Available in lace up or zip up both with and without the cape.

Few do lace better than Watters with their quintessential ethereal and romantic gowns and the "Diana" doesn't disappoint. This soft a-line features a sheer bateau neckline with re-embroidered lace and illusion sweetheart neckline. The bodice is corseted to a natural waist with a satin sash. The gown is available in white and ivory and the sash is available in gardenia, vanilla bean and seaside.

New to Fiori are these pretties by Casablanca Bridals. First up is style 2058, astrapless tulle gown with a soft sweetheart neckline and ruched bodice accented with beaded lace appliqués. The drop waist and full skirt make this a great option for those who want to accentuate an hour-glass figure. Available in ivory, white and champagne.

We also received another drop-waist gown, Casablanca 2062. This crystal chiffon gown also features ruching in the bodice with finely beaded floral appliqués accented with Swarovski crystals and pearls that continue across the back of the bodice. Available in Diamond White and White.

Trendspotting: Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses

Mismatched bridesmaids dresses continue to be a big trend for weddings. While there is something to be said for a clean, streamlined all-matching look, it can be argued that going a different direction can not only be pretty but also smart. Below, some top reasons for going with a mismatched look.

1. Various Body Types
Few of us have the magazine-look of all tall, thin and gorgeous bridesmaids. Most of us have bridal parties with women of varying height, body type, and size - just like in real life!

2. Expecting Bridesmaids
If you have one or more pregnant bridesmaids, letting them choose a dress that will fit their expanding bellies and help them to feel comfortable and confident is considerate.

3. Brides in different locations with different budgets
Not all bridesmaids may be able to afford a $300 dress on top of hair, makeup, accessories and a wedding gift. Giving bridesmaids certain guidelines (which we'll get to below) and allowing them to choose a dress within their budget makes sense.

4. Unique, out-of-the-box and fun
Mismatched bridesmaids dresses can be such a fun and quirky look. It can also be just as refined as all-matching. For the bride who wants something different, this is a great way to incorporate a unique element to your wedding day.

Now that we've covered the reasons why mismatched dresses can be a big plus, let's take a look at some inspiration photos! Typically, a bride would choose a particular bridal boutique or store and tell her brides to pick a dress by a certain designer or anything as long as it is in a certain color, fabric or style. This allows for the individuality of each bridesmaid to show through while still maintaining some parameters for a cohesive look. There are different options you can go with.

Option 1: Same dress, different colors:

Although different colors they are all soft pastels so they create a complete look

Notice that there are two dresses of each color which are all in the same tonal family

Option 2: Same color, different styles

Notice that although the dresses are all different styles, they are all made of the same material: chiffon

While all different, these dresses all have a similar whimsical feel. Matching flowers in the hair help unify the look.

Here the dress styles, shoes and even hemlines differ. You can specify where you want the dress to hit the leg for a more streamlined look.

Here there are only two different styles: one for the pregnant bridesmaids on the left and an another for the bridesmaids on the right.

Allowing the maid of honor to have a slightly different dress (perhaps different neckline) is a way to set her apart.

Option 3: Same color, different shades:

Although different styles and shades of green, these dresses are unified by their material: jersey knit

These work because they are all varying shades of pale yellow in soft chiffon and cotton. Adding in a shiny satin sunshine yellow would throw this look off.

All of these dresses are similar tonally and all made of cotton

These dresses differ only slightly in color, varying in shades of blush

These soft beige dresses are unified by their unique, vintage style

These dresses are all slightly varying shades of crimson with mismatched black tights.

Option 4: Anything goes!

This look is a total free-for-all with mismatched dresses, shoes, even tights!

Here we have varying shades of coral with yellow and pale blue thrown in for good measure. The length of the dresses and the soft flowing fabric helps to unify them

This pretty rainbow look is reinforced by matching each girl's bouquet to her dress.

Option 5- Same or similar dresses with mismatched accessories

These pretty cardigans help inject color and keep the chill away

Bouquets matched to the satin ribbon is a sweet way to have fun with color, but look: the shoes don't match the flowers or bow which throws in an unexpected flair

Here, each bridesmaids' shoes match her bracelet and earrings while the bride's shoes match the bridesmaids' dresses. The colors are pulled from the bouquets creating a fun and unique colorful look!

If going totally mismatched isn't your thing, go with two different style dresses and let the girls choose their shoes -just dye them all the same color! Here, the color of the shoes is reinforced by the rust colored flowers in the bouquet.

Admittedly, spring is not the most popular season for weddings in Vermont, (mud + wedding gowns = bad idea) but it does offer beautiful choices of colors and flowers and with that in mind, we've put together this inspiration board to get you excited for the season of budding trees and blooming bulbs! Friday Fun Pic - Take a bow...

First, there was planking. For those of you who don't know what "planking" is, here is a definition straight off of Wikipedia: an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. Both hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game. Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play. The term planking refers to mimicking a wooden plank. Rigidity of the body must be maintained to constitute good planking.

Inevitably, photos of brides and grooms and entire wedding parties planking surfaced all over the internet.

Now it seems that "Tebowing" has become the new planking. "Tebowing" is a newly coined term referring to the act of kneeling on one knee in prayer with one's head resting on one's fist. It is derived from Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos and his propensity for kneeling and bowing his head in prayer. Now it seems wedding parties are "Tebowing" all over the internet!

We promised you two more Martina Liana gowns and here they are! Martina style 384 is a strapless, drop waist lace and Parisian silk chiffon gown available in either lace up or zip up. The sash is available in off-white, ivory, black, dove gray or amethyst (deep purple). The lace on the bodice is accented with beautiful beading that glimmers and the soft skirt has a texture that looks like magnolias.

Martina style 385 is a strapless silk organza and lace trumpet gown. Layers of silk organza are accented with re-embroidered lace appliques in a vertical cascading pattern down the bodice of the dress and onto both the front and back. Available in lace up or zip up. Sash is sold separately.

If you've been following our blog, you know that we are getting in tons of new dresses every single day. It is SO exciting to open a box and lift out a new wedding gown. Most of the time we love them and sometimes there are those gowns that we just can't stop oohing and aaahhhing over. Martina Liana is a designer who knows how to create dresses that are. just. gorgeous. There is simply no way to appreciate these beauties unless you see them in person, touch them to feel the amazing material and try them on to see how special they truly are.

Lace continues to be a big trend for 2012 but specifically, lace appliques are right on point. Sheer jackets, either cape-like or with sleeves lace are popping up all over the runways and on real-life brides. Martina Liana has touched on this with gown 402, which is a stunning silk organza and lace gown featuring a removable sheer jacket with lace appliques. The jacket neckline is a wide boat neck with an open back that forms a "V". The crystal belt is optional.

Here's another shot with the jacket both on and off, revealing a sweetheart neckline and gentle ruching.

Martina has merged two more big trends for 2012 in her gown 377: lots of glitz and glimmer alongside extreme texture. The strapless a-line gown features a heavily beaded bodice with a Parisian silk chiffon textured skirt. In person, the skirt is incredibly soft and resembles rose petals. The satin sash is available in off-white, ivory, deep purple, dove gray, and black.

This time of year is our busy season which means our appointment book fills up very quickly and we get new gowns in almost daily! The amazing thing about receiving these beautiful dresses is that they're all so unique but so beautiful in their own right. Just when we think "wow, this one is a stunner! The most beautiful yet!", we open another shipment and are once again in awe. It's so much fun working in such beautiful surroundings and handling such lovely gowns. We say it all the time but we really love what we do!

We're excited to show you two new arrivals which are very different in style. It's always interesting to see who prefers which dress. We'll let you take a look at these beauties and make the call: vintage and romantic or modern and sexy? You be the judge...

Casablanca has done it again with another stunner from their Spring 2012 collection. Let us take a moment here to say that this collection is fantastic! Well-thought-out designs + gorgeous material + beautiful fit (all at a wonderful price point) = superb line of captivating gowns. This dress, style 2069 is an organza A-line with a soft sweetheart neckline. The organza overlay features embroidered satin flowers accented with delicate crystals. The back zipper is finished with crystal buttons. It's available in white, ivory or champagne. This dress is perfect for the bride who wants a romantic, soft look that isn't too simple nor too fussy. It retails for 1,150.

Also new to Fiori is the "Bristol" Wtoo gown, style 18420. This strapless, alencon lace, trumpet style features a sweetheart neckline and corset bodice. Alencon lace is a french lace created using a needle and thread to stitch up hundreds of small stitches to form the lace itself. The bodice comes lined or unlined and the gown is available in both white and ivory. It retails for 1,450 and is a beautiful example of an old-world technique on a very modern silhouette.

Art-deco continues to be a big trend for 2012 wedding fashion and our latest arrival is the perfect example of that era. Art-deco was a style of architecture, home decor and fashion that originated in Paris in the early 1920's and made its way globally by 1925. It lasted until the start of the second World War in 1939. Art-deco fashion usually featured "V" necklines and silky satin sheath silhouettes often with embellishment under the bust line or at the waist. Art-deco fashion was all about elegance, glamour and modernity.

The Casablanca gown, style "2060", features a ruched, deep V halter neckline with a pearl and crystal applique. Satin buttons cover the length of the train. Made of Perfecting Satin which resists wrinkling and creasing, this dress is available in white and ivory and retails for $950. The halter top exposes beautiful shoulders is a good option for those with slim hips.

The 95xxx Bridal Show was held yesterday, at the Sheraton in Burlington and it was fun but crazy behind the scenes putting on our runway show! It all turned out beautifully and we are so thankful to our models and to all of you who came out to the fair. Two of the gowns we featured yesterday are brand-spanking-new gowns we just received. Let's take a closer look at these beauties!

Our first new arrival is by Watters, style "Vivien" (1082B). This strapless gown has a sculpted neckline and a silk organza-draped bodice with a slightly dropped waist. The full silk organza skirt features soft slightly gathered layers set onto shirred tulle. Shown here in ivory, this gown is available in both white and ivory. The belt is sold separately. This gown retails for $2,950. The "Vivien" is a modern take on a classic silhouette. Watters has once again delivered a dress that is soft, romantic and whimsical.

The second gown is by Essense of Australia, style 1266. This satin and lace trumpet style dress has a deep sweetheart neckline and features a detachable lace overskirt which gives an illusion a-line silhouette. A satin band at the empire waistline accentuates the smallest part of the body. It is available in both white and ivory and retails for $1,750. You're essentially getting two dresses for the price of one!

This one is special. Well, we say that about all our dresses. However, this one is really, really pretty. You know the old saying: this picture just doesn't do it justice? It's especially true here. Admittedly this dress isn't for everyone but it is a beautiful blend of romance, modernity, sexiness, and softness. It comes from the WTOO collection in Watters and it's called the "Mirabella". Here's why it works: the top is a structured lace elongated corset with a sweetheart neckline and it's embellished with Swarovski crystal beaded lace appliques. It's a little sparkly without being over-the-top. It's contrasted by a full a-line tulle skirt which is incredibly soft (no stiff tulle here!). It's soft-looking AND soft to the touch. The back is lace up and it has a sweep train. It's available in white and ivory and is shown here in ivory.

We saw this on a bride for the first time this weekend and it is a show-stopper! Try this one on, even if you think it may not be for you! You never know!

Want to make a big entrance? This Essense of Australia gown, style D1258 is modern and dramatic while still very elegant. It is a combination of French mikado and soft organza and comes with a detachable belt embellished with roses and beading. Mikado is a twill weave fabric with a fairly stiff hand which makes it a perfect choice for this architectural gown. It is less shiny than satin and less matte than crepe. Mikado also wrinkles less than silk satin. Organza is a crisp plain weave fabric that is translucent and pairs really well with the mikado of this gown.

It is available in both zip up or lace up and comes in ivory and white. Maybe the most unique thing about this dress is that the ruffle insert is detachable! So, after the ceremony, photos and first dance, you can remove the insert for lots of dancing! How fun is that?!

As with every new arrival, we can't wait to see this on a bride!

New Arrival - Bridesmaids' dresses!

We always showcase new wedding gowns that come in but we also recently received some new Alfred Sung bridesmaids dresses by Dessy group that we just thought were so cute, we had to share! Here are two of several different styles we've received.

First up is dress style D532. It's a sleeveless dupioni dress with a bow at high neck. Features a matching self belt at the natural waistline. This dress has a full shirred skirt with pockets (!) at the side seams. It's available in full length and cocktail length (we have the cocktail length at the boutique). Color shown is dahlia but this dress is available in 26 beautiful colors.

Next is dress style D530. This one shoulder cocktail length peau de soie dress has a matching wide self belt at the natural waistline. It too features a full shirred skirt and has pockets - which we absolutely love! It is also available in a full length style and is shown in the color "Firecracker" but comes in a myriad of pretty colors.

The back of this dress is as equally pretty as the front!

If you're looking for bridesmaids dresses, Fiori has something for everyone!

Locked Together: An Engagement Story

At Fiori, we love hearing about how our brides were proposed to. Every story is beautiful and romantic but some stories just leave us speechless. When Stacey recounted her story we were all blown away by the romance and grandeur of such a moment. Everyone has their own notion of what romance is but we think you'll agree this is romantic in every way! Here is Stacey in her own words:

It was a few days before September 15th, my 1 year anniversary with Josh. Before the end of the work day he sent me an email with strict instructions. He said that he had already worked it out with my boss and I was going to be out of work for the rest of the week on an "urban adventure", so I was to tie up all loose ends and not ask ANY more questions! I had NO idea what we were doing.

The next morning he handed me my passport and said, "Pack your bags, we are going to Paris!" I burst into (happy) tears and began toiling over which shoes to bring! Still, I was clueless. I thought Paris itself was my surprise. I had no idea there would be more to come.

Once we landed, we decided to hit the ground running and head over to the Eiffel Tower for some coffee and a nice stroll along the Seine. We arrived at the Pont Des Arts, a famous pedestrian bridge where couples go to attach padlocks as a symbol of their undying love. He pulled out a padlock from his jacket (that had 'Do It' written on it!) and said, "So what do you say we do this?" Then came the waterworks and I couldn't stop crying. "How did you know this was here?!" I kept asking, thinking that this was my anniversary surprise. As we placed the lock on the bridge and threw the keys in the river, he said, "I had an epiphany…" He got down on one knee and continued. "…that you are absolutely perfect and we should get married." Crying too much to speak, I left the poor guy sweating down there for so long that he had to ask me again, "So, how about it?" I of course said "yes!"

"So what do you think?" he asked. "Are you ready to lock yourself to me forever?" Well, if that is the beginning of what our new life together will be like, I think there is only one answer. "Absolutely."

We're always excited whenever we receive a new dress. This past week we got in two beautiful gowns. They're both by Casablanca and they both feature lace, beading and lots of romantic detail. Let's take a closer look at these lovelies.

First is style 1869: A form-fitting A-line gown decorated with multi-color lace in delicate shades of soft blue and pale lavender. The plunging "V" neckline and hemline are both accented by scalloped lace. The back is dramatic with a deep "V". The dress features a center back inset train which gives fullness to the semi-cathedral length train. It is available in white, ivory and champagne and the lace overlay is available in white, ivory or the multi-color.

Next is style 1871: A strapless, heavily beaded gown with gently gathered pick ups. This distinctive gown features a mermaid silhouette with a chapel length train and optional beaded spaghetti straps. It is available in white, ivory and champagne.

As with all Casablanca Bridal gowns, they will customize these dresses to your hearts desires! You can change the neckline, the hemline, add or remove straps, remove beading and change the back from zipper to corset. If you can imagine it, they can make it!

Last week we finally received our new Watters "Palm Springs" gown. This is a tulle strapless dress with a full ruffled skirt and a puddle train. You can purchase the "Mulholland" belt (shown) separately. We have the dress in "Oatmeal" (pictured) which is a slightly pink-beige color but the dress is also available in white and ivory. This dress is so modern but at the same time there is a real romantic quality to it. It'll take a special bride to wear this gorgeous frock - come in and try it on!

A Perfect Pumpkin Wedding

It's peak foliage for greater Vermont this week, with hillsides and winding dirt roads bursting with vibrant red, fiery orange and bright yellow. It's also pumpkin patch season. That time of year when people visit their local pumpkin patch to choose their round orange squash that they'll set out on their front porch or carve into a Jack-O-Lantern. This inspired us to imagine a pumpkin-themed wedding. Any theme can go in one of two directions: kitschy and tacky or elegant and lovely. All month long we'll be receiving new Watters gowns and to kick things off is the "San Francisco" and she is beautiful! Yes, we give our dresses personal pronouns. Available in white and ivory, this gown has embroidered lace covering the bodice with a semi-full skirt in silk organza. The double-layer silk organza straps are perfect for the bride who wants a bit more coverage without any heaviness. Every bride wants to look her very best and there are gown styles which work better with certain body shapes. Work with what you have, don't fight against what you don't love, accentuate what you DO love. With all the options brides are presented with, knowledge is key to helping you make an informed decision.

Empire (pronounced 'ahm-peer')
This gown style has a high waist and a low neckline with the skirt extending from the bust line. It's a great choice for pear-shaped brides because it disguises the hips and accentuates the smallest part of the body. The skirt is typically a-line and not full.

Martina Liana 203

Trumpet
The skirt in this gown style flares out just below the hips, creating a semi-full skirt (shaped like the bell of a trumpet) without a lot of extra volume or bulk. This style lengthens the torso.

Essence of Australia D1173

Mermaid
This style is also commonly known as "fit and flare" because it is fitted throughout and flares out at the knee (or lower). It's a great silhouette for showing off curves and works well with petite brides because it lengthens the silhouette and doesn't overpower the petite frame.

This very flattering style hugs the torso and has a flared skirt in, no surprise here, an A-shape. This is a more traditional gown style that works for virtually everyone.

Sheath
This slim, form-fitting silhouette hugs the body from head-to-toe. It's the perfect look for a casual or intimate wedding and flatters brides with smaller frames. Most often sheaths are simple with a clean aesthetic.

The ball gown has a fitted bodice and a dramatic, full skirt. Busty brides will love this shape because it creates a balanced proportion.

Today's staff pick comes from Josee Telfer who has been with Fiori since June of this year. She describes her style as traditional but is quick to point out that she loves so many different dresses from modern asymmetrical to vintage lace to beaded, "blingy" designs. Her favorite though? The ball gown, without question.

That brings us to her favorite. "I know these 2 dresses (with 1 having a very slight edge over the other) are my favorites because I get particularly excited when a bride wants to try them on." So, without further adieu, Josee's favorites:

The "Roble" by San Patrick of Pronovias. This gown features a beautiful lace top with a clean pleated "cumberbun" waistline that gathers in the center with a beautiful rhinestone accent. The satin ball gown is full yet simple and not heavy. And, it has pockets! This dress is refined elegance.

Josee's other favorite is the San Patrick "Rociera" gown. "When I saw this dress, my heart skipped a beat. Is it weird to have that reaction to a dress?" The top features a softly scalloped "v" neckline with intricate beading. The full satin skirt again has pockets with satin buttons running the length of the train. "This dress is as beautiful from the back as it is from the front. It's regal and sophisticated and I can picture a princess wearing it in a royal wedding."

Which one has the slight edge? The Rociera because of the top. "Maybe if the Roble had a sweetheart neckline, it would beat out the Rociera". Either way, they're both beautiful and here for you to try on!

A Little Something Blue

We've all heard the wedding tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". So, from where did this originate?

What many people don't know is the last phrase "...and a silver sixpence in her shoe." A sixpence is a silver coin minted in Britain from 1551 to 1967 worth approximately 6 pennies. So, we know this tradition is British and most likely began in the Victorian era. Each item represents good luck for the bride on her wedding day with the idea that if she carries them all, her marriage will be happy. "Something old" symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. "Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride. It also is a reminder to the bride that she can depend on her friends and family. As for the "something blue", we know that blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty and fidelity. In Christian weddings, blue is associated with purity as the Virgin Mary has long been clothed in blue. Up until the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns. Finally, "a silver sixpence in her shoe" represents wealth and financial security. Apparently, it should be in the left shoe for optimum fortune. Many brides today substitute a dime or penny.

There are so many things to think about when it comes to wedding planning and preparation. Add to that list makeup. Whether you are going to do your own makeup or have it professionally done, there are some things you should consider when thinking about your look.

What time of day is your wedding at?
A morning or early afternoon wedding may not be the best time to bust out the sultry smokey eye but a late afternoon or evening wedding would suit it beautifully.

Soft & Natural Makeup

Do I normally wear makeup?
If you normally go without, it will seem "out of character" to both you, your husband-to-be and your guests to show up with a full face of makeup. Keep the look consistent with what you typically wear. If, for instance you like your liner and mascara on a regular basis, going for a bolder look will suit the occasion - and you - just fine.

What style dress am I wearing?
A vintage inspired gown would look great paired with a bold red lip and a more modern dress would go hand in hand with dramatic makeup. A simple unadorned dress would pair well with soft, natural makeup.

Where will my wedding be held?
For an outdoor or destination wedding, keep the makeup soft and simple. If you're having a more formal evening wedding, more intense dramatic makeup would be in order.

Keep in mind that natural doesn't mean "no makeup" and that your dress, hair and makeup shouldn't only look great in person but also photograph well. Taking pictures outside in bright daylight will wash out your makeup so you may want to go a little darker and deeper than what might seem comfortable for you. Just like professional models and actresses will tell you, makeup needs to be applied with a slightly heavier hand to show up in photographs and on camera.

Kate Middleton chose a classic defined eye with a soft lip and cheek which suited her mid-morning wedding perfectly. Although simple it still photographed very well and conveyed well on camera, too.

For today's pick, we're showcasing a new Casablanca gown, style 2037 which is made of their "perfecting satin" - a satin fabric that stretches and gives a flawless fit. The dress features a ruched fitted bodice with slight A-line flare accented on the front and back with Swarovski crystal and pearl beaded appliques. Comes in white or ivory and as with all Casablanca gowns, the neckline can be modified.

Most brides will choose the design of their cake based on the colors in the wedding or the flowers in the bouquets. When it comes to "pouf factor", brides usually know what they want when it comes to their dress. Most feel very strongly about the princess dress one way or the other and while some may love it in a magazine or on a mannequin, they don't picture themselves in one. So, just what is mango yellow? It's a beautiful shade of yellow that has just a touch of orange - exactly like the inside of a ripe mango. It's deeper than lemon yellow and not as intense as straight-up orange and is fast-becoming a very popular color choice for weddings.

We know that yellow roses signify friendship, familiar love and domestic happiness but what does this slightly more orange-yellow mean? Taking into consideration the significance of the colors of both orange and yellow, it's safe to say that mango-yellow signifies joy, happiness, energy and stimulation. It's an attention-getter, so use it where you want to highlight the most important elements of your wedding.
